Social Distancing #47

Waikapū, Hawaii April, 2020 .
“What a bizarre 4 weeks this has been isolated here in Waikapū. On one hand it’s strange to not know what the next day will bring, and on the other it’s been an amazing time to reflect and create as an artist. Being a freelance florist in Hawaii, catering mainly to destination weddings and events, our industry depends on tourism and social gatherings for work. Cut the tourism and social gatherings and there’s no jobs. It all happened so quick, one day my schedule was full, and the next day started an unforeseen lockdown with no clear end in sight.
That being said, the cut on tourism has given us a glimpse of Hawaii that none of us have ever seen before. Beautiful pristine empty beaches and parks screaming our names, yet not being able to indulge in them due to new rules and regulations being passed faster than I can keep up with. Our skies no longer littered with airplanes, and our roads clear of thousands of rental cars scattering around like lost ants. Amongst the craze of the pandemic, the pace seems to have slowed down. The most beautiful thing I’ve taken from all of this seeing how nature has flourished around the globe with the absence of humans. Reminding us that we need to step back from our excessive, fast-paced lifestyles and reconnect with this Earth that continues to provide for us.
Stay safe and healthy everyone, and to all my fellow creatives. KEEP CREATING!” Noah H.
